Children with disability
Medway Council has a large Disabled
Children’s Team that offers a range of flexible services to allow
disabled children to remain living at home with their families. The
team undertakes a variety of assessments and subsequent casework
interventions, working in partnership with health, education and
voluntary organisations to offer families appropriate services to
meet their individual needs.
The Disabled Children’s Team is
based in a purpose-built resource centre called Parklands, situated
in Oxford Road, Gillingham. More information on the wide range of
group work services available to parents, carers, disabled children
and non-disabled siblings via Parklands can be found by contacting
the team and the centre on 01634 338500/02. The Centre also carries
out individual work with parents relating to behavioural management
and sensory awareness.
Parents of disabled children are encouraged to join the
disability register, which is maintained at Parklands. This
register offers families regular updated information that may be of
interest to them. Information held on the register is used to plan
new services and highlight the needs of local families.
